Spring sports like baseball, softball and track and field are in full swing around the region. Here’s a look at last week’s top high school competitors around the North Bay.

Kate Sosa, American Canyon softball: Quickly establishing herself as one of the area’s top softball players, Sosa kept backing it up last week. During Monday’s 11-1 win over Pinole Valley, Sosa had three hits, two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. She also allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven in six innings of work. Then, in Wednesday’s statement 15-5 win over defending Vine Valley Athletic League champion Casa Grande, Sosa was electric on both sides of the plate. She hit a grand slam, scored two runs scored and allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out five in the circle.

Robby Corippo, Ukiah baseball: Corippo had himself a big day in Saturday’s 5-3 win over Vintage in an NBL-Oak/VVAL crossover matchup. The junior had three hits, including a double, and a pair of RBIs in the win, as the Wildcats secured their third win in a row.

Gabe Franci, Analy baseball: Analy has been nearly unstoppable in NBL-Redwood play, going a perfect 5-0 so far. While multiple players have contributed to that success, it’s Franci’s performance on the bump in Friday’s 5-1 win over Santa Rosa that gets the nod. In five innings of work, the pitcher allowed one run on three hits while striking out five.

Damian Padilla, Technology baseball: Tech has been picking up solid wins as the Titans look to get to the top of the NCL II, and Padilla’s performance on the mound last week certainly helped. In Friday’s nail-biting 5-4 win over league foe Willits, Padilla hurled a complete game from the mound, with 10 strikeouts and while allowing just five hits and a walk.

Bella Hudson, Petaluma softball: Hudson had quite the week last week as the Trojans remained perfect in VVAL play. In Wednesday’s 13-3 win over Sonoma Valley, Hudson had a pair of hits, including a double, with two runs scored. Then, on Friday, she had three hits, a double and three RBIs in a 13-2 win over Napa.

Grace Rhodes, Cloverdale softball: The freshman has been a breakout star for the Eagles, who have breezed through NCL I play thus far. In Thursday’s five-inning, 21-1 win over Upper Lake, Rhodes put on a show with three hits at the plate, including a home run, and four runs scored. She also held Upper Lake in check in the circle, allowing one run on one hit in five innings while striking out 12 batters.

Vincente Adan, Cardinal Newman track and field: Adan was the top boys placer at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, earning a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 162 feet, 6 inches.

Josie Hill, Sonoma Academy track and field: Hill continued her breakout season with a second-place finish in the 1,600-meter race at Saturday’s Stanford Invitational. Her time of 4:50.56 is a new personal record for the junior and eighth best all-time in Redwood Empire history, according to records compiled by redwoodempirerunning.com.

Kaylin Suacci, Cardinal Newman track and field: The Cardinals thrower has not slowed her momentum at all this season, with two top-10 finishes Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. She took second in discus (133-01) and seventh in shot put (36-08.25).

Corinna Schlatter, St. Helena track and field: Schlatter won the varsity girls’ 3,200-meter race in 11:04.87 — almost a full 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher at the East Bay Invitational on Saturday. The Saints junior also finished fourth in the 1,600 in 5:22.28.
